PK Sherpa Inspires Students at Sanskriti School on World Environment Day 2026

Kathmandu, June 3 — Marking World Environment Day 2026, Sanskriti School, Halchowk, organized a special awareness program featuring renowned Everest summiteer, tourism entrepreneur, and environmental conservation advocate PK Sherpa, who shared his inspiring journey and environmental experiences with secondary-level students.
The event was held in line with this year’s global World Environment Day theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”, and the campaign slogan “Now for Climate.” Addressing the students, Sherpa emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility and called for collective action to safeguard nature for future generations.
Born in Taplejung, Sherpa has successfully summited Mount Everest three times and has dedicated much of his career to environmental conservation initiatives. During the program, he recounted his experiences from cleanup campaigns conducted in the Everest and Kanchenjunga regions, highlighting the growing challenge of waste management in the Himalayas and the urgent need for responsible environmental practices.
Sherpa also spoke about his active involvement in tree-planting campaigns across Nepal’s mountain, hill, and Terai regions, noting that more than 100,000 trees have been planted through various initiatives. He stressed the importance of afforestation, responsible travel, and effective waste management in addressing environmental challenges.
Introducing his “Three T’s Environmental Approach,” Sherpa explained the concepts of Trekking (responsible travel), Trees (tree plantation), and Trash (waste management) as practical ways individuals can contribute to environmental conservation.
Students actively participated in the session by raising questions on climate change, environmental challenges, and the protection of fragile mountain ecosystems. In response, Sherpa encouraged young people to take an active role in conservation efforts, stating that meaningful environmental change is impossible without the involvement and commitment of the younger generation.
Currently serving as the Managing Director of Father and Son Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. and President of the Globally Concern Center for Climate Change, Sherpa’s presentation was described by the school as both educational and highly motivating for students.
During the event, environmental educator and conservation supporter Bishwo Sigdel introduced PK Sherpa and highlighted his contributions to environmental protection and sustainable tourism. As a gesture of appreciation, Grade 10 student Siona Shrestha presented Sherpa with a painting she had created. The program concluded with Principal Timila Shrestha presenting a token of love and appreciation to the guest speaker.
