Kathmandu Rajan Thapa A special campaign launched with the aim of promoting environmental protection, recycling, education and social responsibility on the occasion of World Environment Day has been grandly completed in Kathmandu. The program, which was conducted with the main slogan “From My Desk to Yours”, implemented practical environmental awareness by bringing the collected reusable materials to use at the school level.
The program, jointly organized by Khalisisisi.com, Circular Nepal and various social organizations, also included eco-challenges, recycling drives, distribution of educational materials and health camps. The organizers said that this campaign, which was especially targeted at students around the Sisdol landfill area, gave an effective message about waste management, environmental challenges and the importance of recycling.
The program’s official team included Ayushi KC, Bipana Shrestha, Naveen Risal, Rubina Thapaliya and Bipana Aryal. The organizers say that the campaign conducted under their coordination has further strengthened the collaboration between the school and the community.
Om Samaj Dental Hospital, Banasthali branch, provided free dental check-ups and distributed essential medicines to the students during the program. The hospital’s health workers provided detailed information about dental and oral health, the importance of hygiene and regular health check-ups. Awareness was also spread about the direct relationship between health and the environment.
Program chairperson Ayusha KC said that it is necessary to link environmental protection with daily life. According to her, the students have proven in practice that materials thrown away as waste can be made useful through proper management and creative thinking. She believed that collaboration between the school and the community will lay the foundation for sustainable development.
Sharmila Thapa, who participated in the program on behalf of the contributing nation, said that such campaigns play an important role in developing social responsibility, leadership skills and practical knowledge among the students. She emphasized that environmental protection should be adopted not only theoretically but also practically.
Similarly, Sabina Papan Gurung, Head of Om Samaj Dental Hospital Banasthali Branch, expressed her happiness at increasing health awareness through health check-ups and medicine distribution among students. According to her, a healthy body and a clean environment are directly linked to each other, hence there is a need to expand health education at the school level.
The hospital board members also expressed their commitment to continue such social programs, stating that health, education and environment should be given equal priority. According to them, such initiatives taken at the community level will bring positive social changes in the long term.
Social activist and journalist Rajan Thapa emphasized that environmental protection should not be just a formal program but should be made a part of lifestyle. According to her, a clean environment and a healthy society complement each other and it is possible to build a sustainable and green future only through collective efforts.
Various educational institutions including Ghatraj Memorial School, Ullens School, Sikshantar School, Premier International School, New Millennium School, Oxford Practical School, Prime College, Everest English School, S School and Shree Mahalaxmi Basic Secondary School actively participated in the program. The organizers said that the participating students gained practical knowledge about recycling, environmental protection and social service.
The program conveyed a strong message of “Save Nature, Recycle and Create a Future” and reaffirmed the need to put environmental protection into practice. All the participating institutions have committed to continuing such campaigns in the coming days as well.
