RatoGhar Literary Festival on ‘Sanskriti, Sampada ra Sahar’ Concludes

Kathmandu, Friday — The RatoGhar Literary Festival, centred on Sanskriti, Sampada ra Sahar (Culture, Heritage and the City), concluded successfully under the auspices of the RatoGhar Foundation.

Held at the Nepal Bhasa Mankakhal Building in Bijeshwori, the festival commenced with the traditional Kokomehndo tika-prasad ceremony, accompanied by melodious performances of Tungna, Damphu and Dhimay.

Welcoming the guests, Foundation Chairperson Sneh Sayami highlighted the importance of such events in preserving literature, culture and heritage.

In the opening session, moderated by poet Bishwo Sigdel, renowned poets recited poems focusing on heritage and civilization. The participating poets included Usha Sherchan, Laxmi Mali, Bhishma Upreti, Abhaya Shrestha, Rajanimila, Uttam Raut, Gita Tripathi, Rajani Dhakal, Sulochana Manandhar Dhital, Prollas Sindhuliya, Deepak Sapkota, Bhojraj Neupane, Ramgopal Ashutosh, Rasikraj, Shakuntala Joshi, Laxmi Rumba, Suman Thapa Sangam, Bina Nemkul, Rita Khatri, Kisan Poudel and Juman Kirangayat.

In another session, the RatoGhar Chwasa Samman, carrying a cash prize of Rs 25,025, was conferred on Rameshkaji Sthapit, while Dr Shankarman Rai received the RatoGhar Utkrishta Sewa Samman. Foundation Vice-Chairperson Basudev Adhikari introduced the award recipients.

The festival also witnessed the launch of Taah Wa Pakha Ta, the Nepal Bhasa translation of poet Sneh Sayami’s Nepali poetry collection. The work was translated by Rameshkaji Sthapit.

A panel discussion titled ‘Sahar Kasko Ho?’ featured Sudarshan Raj Tiwari and Malla K. Sundar, who held an in-depth discussion on the gradual disappearance of the Kathmandu Valley’s indigenous culture, heritage and civilization. The session was moderated by Deepak Sameer.

Similarly, another discussion on ‘Swanigah Yambu ra Sampadako Sahar’ brought together Kathmandu Metropolitan City Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Manjali Shakya and Madhyapur Thimi Municipality Deputy Mayor Bijay Krishna Shrestha as speakers. Moderated by Foundation Chairperson Sneh Sayami, the session focused on cultural preservation, protection of indigenous structures and development plans within their respective local governments.

Towards the end of the programme, poets recited poems in their mother tongues. The session featured Narad Bajracharya, Nabin Prakash Shrestha, Bina Thing, Ajitman Lama, Ishwor Thokar, Chandra Bahadur Lama, Basanta Nakarmi, Hissilina Shakya, Rahena Nakarmi Manandhar, Rashmi Napit, Ritesh Tripathi, Tilak Chamling Rai, Rajeshwori Rajopadhyaya, Arjun Maharjan and Raj Akshobhya. The session was moderated by poet Rajanimila.

Concluding the event, Foundation General Secretary Anita Lama thanked all participants and said the Foundation would continue organising similar programmes while honouring individuals contributing to literature and social service. Chairperson Sneh Sayami also reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to organising more programmes centred on indigenous heritage and literature. The festival was co-organised by Bartaman Kavita Samuha, Sureshkiran Smriti Guthi and Nepal Bhasa Manka Khala. The programme was hosted by poet Rami priya.
